WASHINGTON, DC – A new report from the Excessive Wealth Disorder Institute examines compelling messaging that can persuade more Americans to support taxing the rich. The report includes a set of pressure-tested messaging recommendations that have already shown effectiveness with persuadable audiences.

The report outlines five key insights that can help advocates craft engaging messaging and grow support for progressive tax policy. It also provides crucial information on what does not work to move the needle.

“One of our key findings–and an important distinction for advocates and movement builders–is that the messages that inspire and motivate our base are not the same messages that convince persuadable Americans to join our fight,” said Gabriela Sandoval, EWDi’s Executive Director. “In fact, these base-building messages often alienate persuadable folks who are not already part of our base audiences.”

This guide is an actionable resource for advocates, policymakers and anyone wishing to speak in a way that resonates meaningfully with persuadable audiences. This eye-opening research has the potential to transform the way we fight for economic justice.
